It Just Might Be too Late

Howell Raines, onetime editor of The New York Times (registration required), has a fairly typical piece in the Guardian.  He’s not happy with John Kerry’s performance, and offers advice – some good, some not – on what to do.  For me though, the problem is encapsulated thusly:

“Kerry has yet to learn to do what Bush and vice-president Dick Cheney do when they’re in the hot seat. They take over the interview even when they have nothing to say and nothing to sell.”

Criminy, if Kerry hasn’t learned this after three decades of professional politics, the ship has sailed.
